Yeah, Altamont isn’t exactly a snowboard company, but this is nonetheless a great collaborative series between the brand and super group No Age.

Got out of Burlington early this morning and ran into the Northeast Sales Crew from Burton on the plane. After catching up on current and past happenings, we sacked out and woke up in time for touch-down in Chicago (ORD). We exchanged high fives, said later and headed to our respective gates.

My travel itinerary was a bit ‘technical’ as I was heading to Arizona to drop off my 300 lbs of photo gear, hang out with my family for a minute then drive to Vegas from the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix). When I arrived into PHX Int’l Airport, the baggage carousel went round and round…and round. Where are my bags…stuck in Chicago.

Got into the missing baggage line, filled out my paperwork and Rick said they’d be in on the next flight (5:30PM). With some time to kill I immediately headed over to Al’s house in Central Phoenix for a mellow ride around the neighborhood…it’s always nice to score an unplanned ride during mid-winter.

So that’s where I’m at now…back from a fresh 60-degree ride and waiting on the luggage to arrive…I’ll check in from Vegas.

I ran into the Northeast Sales Crew on the flight from Burlington to Chicago…we’re all headed in the same direction…Vegas !

I make it a habit of showing an airplane wing in each travel post…ya’ll good with that ? Let me know.

Ah man…empty baggage carousel…where are my bags ???

No bags means empty (and light) baggage cart…

“…which number does your bag most resemble…22…what color…black…any logos…Burton Snowboards…”

“…your bags didn’t make the connecting flight…been happening all day out of Chicago…”

Mellow bike ride with Al while waiting for the bags to arrive…

…And on to Vegas

Once my bags showed up in Phoenix, it was early evening, much too late to keep on the road. I decided to call it a night with some dinner and movies with the family, intending on an early morning departure to Vegas. The alarm rang at 4:30AM, out the door by 5, food and refreshments in hand (thanks mom).

My first order of business at the Trade Show was at 11:30, and with the Hoover Dam going under some massive construction, you never know how long the road closures were going to be. I rolled up on the security checkpoint, got waved through and made the traverse across this massive cement structure that holds back 45thousand gallons of water per square foot.

After that it was smooth sailing into Las Vegas and The New York New York Hotel. With the time change, I picked up an hour and spent that sleeping !

It appears that Monument collaborated with some pretty interesting artists when designing their 2010 collection. The board displayed above is probably the most arresting, as it celebrates the work of Ramellzee.

Who? Who is Ramellzee?

“Always ahead of his time, New York artist and performer Rammellzee (pronounced “Ram: Ell: Zee) was born 1960 in Far Rockaway, Queens. Credited with being one of the inventors of graffiti art in the late 1970’s as well as one of the original hip hop artists from the New York area who introduced specific vocal styles which date back to the early 1980s. His influence can still be heard in contemporary artists such as The Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill and his legendary hip-hop single “Beat Bop” with K-Rob was produced by the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and has become one of the most sought after hip hop releases ever.

In the mid-80’s, Rammellzee became associated with a group of artists who painted or tagged in a style known as East Village wild style. This was an illegible, dynamic style of writing letters derived originally from the Gothic script of Medieval manuscripts. In 1982, he appeared in the seminal hip hop documentary Wildstyle by Charlie Ahearn, his fame in graffiti circles was established when he painted New York subway trains with Dondi, OU3, and Ink 76, and Doctor Revolt. Rammellzee’s graffiti and art work are based on his theory of Gothic Futurism, which describes the battle between letters and their symbolic warfare against any standardizations enforced by the rules of the alphabet; his treatise, “Iconic Panzerisms”, details an anarchic plan by which to revise the role and deployment of language in society.

Rammellzee’s work has been exhibited internationally. His work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He performs in self-designed masks and costumes of different characters of his own creation, one featured within his board art named “Reaper Grimm”.”

So yeah.

The latest ANP Quarterly arrived in the mail today and i must say that it is one of the best issues to date. The design is spot on, the writing is pretty alright and there is exactly 12 nipples.
